Salmon Derby Results

The anglers participating in the first day of the 38th Annual Salmon Derby had to contend with cloudy skies, a brisk westerly wind, and water temperatures in the low to mid 40s. Anglers had success along the US side of Lake Huron, in the Kettle Point area, and off the shore of the St. Clair River.

There were 75 fish entered at the Sarnia weigh station and 83 fish entered at the Port Franks weigh station for a first day total of 158 fish. This compares to 109 fish entered on the first day of the 2013 Salmon Derby.

The first day Salmon Derby leaders are:

  • Alex Matysiah from Arkona in the Salmon category with a 13.80 lbs salmon.
  • Justin Zadgel from Grand Bend in the Trout – Boat category with a 7.26 lbs brown trout.
  • Mathew Tensigni from Sarnia in the Trout – Shore category with a 8.54 lbs rainbow trout.
  • Jason McMichael from Brights Grove in the Lake Trout category with a 13.32 lbs lake trout.
  • Randy Smith from Corunna in the Walleye category with a 5.60 lbs walleye.
  • The Kids Big Fish leader is Fisher Beaubien from Sarnia who entered a 10.58 lbs salmon.
  • The Daily Big Fish winner is Alex Matysiah from Arkona with a 13.80 lbs salmon.
  • The Daily Draw winner at the Sarnia weigh station is Kyle Green from Sarnia.
  • The Daily Draw winner at the Port Franks weigh station is Charles Poore from Parkhill.

Today is Ladies Day. The women anglers will be competing for a $250 prize for the largest fish entered by a women 16 years of age or older.
