Its National Rail Safety Week

It’s National Rail Safety Week and CN Police are cracking down on illegal activity at rail crossings and train yards.

Constable Cynthia Stotz says they’ll be conducting extra enforcement at the rail yard near Campbell St.

Officers will also be present at the Mandaumin Rd. crossing and Pt. Edward Spur Line.

Constable Stotz says there has been an increase in rail-related fatalities this year.

So far across Canada, 31 people have been killed trying to cross train tracks in a car while 44 people have died as a result of trespassing in rail yards.

Residents are urged to call 1-800-465-9239 to report any unsafe behaviour on railway property.
