Freighters Anchored North Of Bluewater Bridge
April 26, 2014 10:22amJust because we can’t see ice in Sarnia and Port Huron, doesn’t mean there are no longer issues for ship traffic.
At least 13 freighters are anchored in Lake Huron north of the Bluewater Bridge.
Canadian Coast Guard’s Superintendent of Operations for the Central and Arctic Region Andy Maillet says there’s still ice in many areas including Georgian Bay, St. Mary’s River and Lake Superior.
Maillet says the freighters are being grouped into convoys that will be assisted by ice breakers. However, he says they could be anchored for sometime as there are multiple convoys waiting to move.
