Imperial Oil Vapour Release
There was a vapour release at the Chemical Plant at Imperial Oil’s Sarnia manufacturing complex Tuesday afternoon.
Company spokesman Jon Harding says at about 3:50pm plant personnel responded to a release of light hydrocarbon vapour. He says the issue was identified and contained and the all clear given at about 4:20pm. Site sirens were activated and community notification issued but Harding says there was no need for community members to take any action.
He says monitoring by Imperial at the site’s fence line indicated no impact to air quality. Ontario’s Ministry of Environment was notified. A Chemical Valley Emergency Coordinating Organization Code 8 was issued, indicating an abnormal occurrence being handled internally.
