Weeding Out Phragmites
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex Conservative MPP Monte McNaughton is calling on the Ontario Liberals to add the invasive reed phragmites to the list of noxious weeds.
McNaughton says the tall plant keeps spreading and is having devastating impacts on local wetlands, coastlands and agricultural lands.
He says he’s written a letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne in hopes of bringing attention to the problem. He says adding phragmites to the list of noxious weeds would allow property owners to better control the plant.
Lambton County Council has allocated $70,000 this year to control phragmites along area roadways.
