The Sarnia Harbour divestiture will not be a burden on the city but rather an economic benefit.

That’s Sarnia-Lambton MP Pat Davidson’s assessment.

She spoke at a ceremony at City Hall Friday afternoon, marking the official transfer of ownership from Transport Canada to the city.

Davidson says negotiators did an excellent job. This leads the MP to believe there will be no financial burden to the city, but rather benefits.

Mayor Mike Bradley also said he’s confident staff got the best deal possible.

Transport Canada had previously offered $5-million but upped that to over $8.5-million to support operational and maintenance costs.
