Chamber Comments on Border Collection

It’s a matter of cost versus collection.
Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce President Rory Ring is reacting to a Prime Minister briefing note indicating border guards appear to be giving many shoppers a pass on paying taxes and duties when they return from the U-S.
He says security is the priority at the border.
Ring says the cost of engaging five or six employees to collect $150 at the border far outweighs the revenue being generated.
Canadians made 55 million trips to the U-S in 2012, 33 million of which were completed on the same day.
