Sarnia fire crews responded at mid-afternoon to a downtown structure fire.

Firefighters were called to Blackwater Coffee and Tea Company at 170 Christina St. N.

Eye witnesses reported smoke billowing from the building.

Platoon Chief Bill Shane says a coffee bean roaster caused a fire that sent smoke into the ventilation system. He says damage was limited to between $10,000 and $20,000.

Occupants got out of the business and upstairs apartments safely.

Christina St. was blocked from Cromwell to Lochiel until the scene was cleared.

Fire crews checked the air in the upstairs apartments to make sure it was safe for occupants to return.
