The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced its revised 2021-22 format with the resumption of play beginning on January 31st, 2022.
The regular season will carry on with a total of 48 games and the regular season will be extended three weeks to accommodate the games.
The regular season will finish on April 3rd with playoffs starting April 6th.
The playoff format has yet to be finalized.
“After what everyone has been through, including our players and entire GOJHL community, it was our clubs’ number one priority to ensure that our players receive a full season in 2021-22. However, it was very unfortunate that we had to make the very difficult decision to cancel the events that further showcase our players due to time constraints and health and safety factors,” stated GOJHL Commissioner Brent Garbutt.
As per Provincial guidelines, fans will be permitted to attend games as of January 31st, with a maximum of 500 people or 50% capacity, whichever is less.
The GOJHL is currently awaiting approvals from its governing bodies before finalizing a decision on the 2021-22 playoff format, with several options currently on the table.
“Our clubs have been working diligently on various scenarios in case we are unable to maintain our regular playoff format and in preparation for what may come our way in the future,” added Garbutt.
The Listowel Cyclones will restart their season at home on February 4th versus Caledon with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
