Cyclones outscored in Ayr, PJHL ready to roll

The Listowel Cyclones were able to build a 3-1 lead in the first 2o minutes of their game in Ayr Thursday night.

But the Centennials rebounded in the second period and went on to win the game 7-5.

Listowel defenceman Kian Harron opened the scoring at 3:45 of the first on the power play. Jaden Gouldie and Chet Hudson would build on Listowel's lead through the first half of the period. Ayr was able to put a point on the board when the power play connected at 16:16 of to make it 3-1.

The second period belonged to the home team as the Centennials scored three times, including one short handed.

Ayr pulled away in the third period, scoring twice in the first several minutes. Listowel was able to pull to within one thanks to goals from Jackson Phillips at the seven minute mark and Cam Knight at 16:40. Ayr would seal it with a goal with just 40 seconds left.

Carter Garvie stopped 24 of 38 shots.

Listowel returns home Friday night for a game against Cambridge at 7:30 p.m.

Elsewhere Caledon beat Stratford 5-2.

Teams in the PJHL Pollock Division open up the season with a bang.

Six of the seven teams are on the ice Friday night.

And it starts with Mount Forest in Hanover at 8 p.m.

Wingham is in Walkerton for an 8:20 start and Mitchell will skate against the Bulldogs in Kincardine at 8:30 p.m.

Goderich will play its first game Saturday night on home ice against Wingham.

The last PJHL Pollock Division game, outside of this year's preseason, was a in the division finals on March 8, 2020. And that was between Wingham and Mount Forest.

OHA Hockey on CKNX, brought to you by P.B.J. Cleaning Depot Group, will be in Kincardine Friday night as the Bulldogs host the Mitchell Hawks.
