Mitchell Hawks unveil new logo

The Mitchell Hawks have unveiled a new primary logo ahead of the 2021-22 PJHL campaign.

In a couple of Twitter posts on Tuesday, July 20th, the Hawks revealed their new look, as they transitioned from their old depiction of the Chicago Blackhawks-esque Indigenous warrior logo to an actual hawk, keeping with their old red, white, green and yellow colour scheme. The team says the new logo was designed by Tom Fanson.

Mitchell was one of a number of sports teams across Ontario that were asked to change logos that were deemed insensitive to Indigenous groups in recent years following a number of human rights panels conducted specifically to decide whether the use of certain images was right moving forward. That falls in line with a number of pro teams as well, including the Washington NFL team, the Edmonton CFL team, now known as the Elks, and Cleveland of Major League Baseball, who will ditch their name after this season.
