Warriors and Hawks pick up wins in GOJHL and PJHL

The Listowel Cyclones were held to just 16 shots on net as Stratford won 5-1 to even the GOJHL Midwest Quarter-Finals at one.

Listowel got out of the gate first when Tyler Hotson scored at 14:37 of the first period.

Things stayed quiet until the end of the second. Stratford scored twice in a two minute span to end the period. Clayton Lewis at 18:16 and Drew Welsch at 19:56. By the end of the second period, the Warriors had out shot Listowel 21-9.

It was all Stratford in the third period as Carter Schoonderwoerd scored the insurance marker early at the 2:26 mark. Mitchell Casey and Evan Dowd added goals on the power play.

Cyclones' goalie Evan Morrison made 28 saves and Rhett Kimmel made 15.

It was a quieter night in the penalty box with just four minor penalties, all called in the third. Listowel was 0-for-2 on the power play, Stratford 2-for-2.

With the series tied at one, the teams are back at the Allman Arena for Game 3 at 7 p.m. Sunday. The game can be heard on Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey on CKNX.

In the PJHL Pollock Division, the Mitchell Hawks have pushed Mount Forest to the limit.

The Hawks won in Mount Forest 4-3 to take a 3-2 lead in the semi-final.

The Patriots were able to get the power play going, scoring twice with the man advantage. But Mitchell blitzed the Mount Forest net with 41 shots and out scored the Patriots.

Mitchell forward Tanner Hertel opened the scoring at 9:08 in the first scoring short handed. Ryley Cribbin would even things up on a Mount Forest power play at 14:26.

The second period was back and forth. Mitchell had a chance to take the lead when Josh Gottfried was awarded a penalty shot but was unsuccessful. Both teams would go on to score later in the period. Blair Butchart on the power play at 6:37 to give Mount Forest the lead and Jarrett Bogdon at 16:45 to tie it.

In the the third period, Jarett Bogdon struck for his second goal of the game and eighth of the playoffs at 5:13 to give Mitchell the lead. Kyle Langlois added the insurance goal at 12:36.

Mount Forest would score with the extra attacker as Blair Butchart picked up his second goal of the game but with just seven seconds left.

Hawks' goalie Lucas Bain made 29 saves for the win while Gleb Poliakov made 37 saves.

Game 6 is in Mitchell Sunday at 3;1 p.m. and can be heard on Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey.
