Wingham, Mitchell close out PJHL playoff series

The Wingham Ironmen and Mitchell Hawks closed out their PJHL Pollock Division quarter-final series.

Wingham swept Walkerton with a 4-3 overtime win Wednesday night.

Both teams battled to a 2-2 mark at the end of the first and then each scored once in the second period. The third period did not solve anything. In overtime, Tanner Reid scored the winner midway through the overtime period.

Corey Restoule scored twice for Wingham and Kyle Stanbury also scored. For Walkerton, Nathan Thibodeau, Graham Gateman and Owen Torrie all scored. Each team was 1-for-3 on the power play.

The Mitchell Hawks ended their series with a 3-1 win in Hanover. The difference was a second period power play goal off the stick of Braeden Burdett that gave Mitchell a 2-1 lead at the time.

Jarrett Bogdon also scored for Walkerton and Tanner Hertel added an empty net goal. Jonathon Baumann scored Hanover's only goal in the first period on the power play.

With the 4-0 series win Mitchell moves on the to the division semi-finals.

But the second round won't be set until the Kincardine-Goderich series finishes. That stands at 3-1 in favour of Kincardine with Game 5 Friday night in Kincardine at 8:30 p.m.

If Kincardine wins, Mount Forest will face Mitchell in the semi-finals as the Patriots come off a first round bye. Wingham would take on Kincardine.

If Goderich wins then the Flyers would face Mount Forest and Wingham would get Mitchell.
