Short handed goal sparks Cyclones, Verbeek with a 4 G night

The Listowel Cyclones found themselves trailing in the third period in Brampton but found a way to get back into the game.

The Cyclones' erased two deficits in the game. The team fell behind 2-0 by the early part of the second period. Trent Verbeek cut into the lead with a goal with just 1:17 left in the period.

A late penalty call gave the Cyclones a power play that carried over into the third and Trent Verbeek scored the tying goal just 42 seconds into the period. Brampton regained the lead a couple of minutes later.

Then the fireworks began. Jonah White scored short handed at the 11:32 mark. Then just over a minute later Verbeek scored the go ahead goal to complete his hat trick. Verbeek would also score on the empty net to make the final 5-3. Verbeek now as 15 goals on the season.

The win keeps Listowel even with Stratford as the Warriors beat Elmira 4-0. Both the Cyclones and Warriors have 45 points on the season and Listowel has a game in hand after Saturday's contest in Kitchener was postponed because of the weather.

Listowel's next game is Friday at home versus Elmira.

In other GOJHL action on Sunday, Waterloo beat Kitchener 5-4.
