Goderich Flyers offence soars in win against Mitchell

The Goderich Flyers scored nine times on 28 shots, including a hat trick from Monkton native Colton Quipp, in a 9-6 win over the Mitchell Hawks.

Mitchell had a 2-1 lead after the first period and then scored four goals in the second period. The first came just 38 seconds in followed by another at the 5:24 mark. The next two came just 13 seconds apart at the 15:32 and 15:45 points of the period.

That gave Mitchell a 5-2 lead then the Flyers gained some altitude.

Quipp scored his first of the game at 16:13 of the second, the first of three Goderich goals within a three minute span to end the second period.

In the third period, Goderich outscored Mitchell 4-1 which included two more goals for Quipp for the hat trick.

Mitchell goalie Seth Monkhouse stopped 19 shots and took the loss while Jarod Fleming stopped 16 of 17 shots for the win after coming into the game just over the halfway point.

The Mitchell Hawks next game is Wednesday at home versus Hanover at 8:30 p.m., while Goderich will travel to Kincardine Friday night.

In other PJHL action, Mathew Donnelly made 45 saves but the Walkerton Hawks lost 5-4 in overtime.  Wingham Ironmen captain Carter Collinson scored the winner just 21 seconds into OT.

The Ironmen travel to Mitchell on Friday night and Walkerton hosts Mount Forest.

Mount Brydges beat Exeter 4-1. Shots in the game were 47 to 45 in favour of Mount Brydges.
