Cyclones fall behind early in Kitchener

The Listowel Cyclones fell behind early and lost 4-3 in Kitchener.

The Dutchmen scored three goals in the first period while Listowel could only net one. That goal came at 10:47 of the first off the stick of Tyler Hotson, his seventh of the season, and was sandwiched between two Kitchener goals at 8:45 and 11:20. Kitchener also scored earlier in the period.

Kitchener would score the only goal in the second giving the team a 4-1 lead.

Listowel's push back started at the 4:20 mark of the third when Carter McIlwain scored on the power play, his fourth goal of the season. Then Rylan Bowers scored his seventh goal of the season late in the period. Kitchener would hold on for the win.

Not a banner night for the power play on either side as Listowel was 1-for-7 and Kitchener 0-for-6.

Evan Morrison stopped 35 shots but was tagged with the loss. Lucas Patton stopped 27 shots for Kitchener.

It's now a log jam atop the standings in the Midwest with Kitchener, Elmira and Cambridge with 18 points and Listowel right behind them with 17.

The Cyclones host Cambridge Friday night at 7:30 p.m., the feature game on Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey on CKNX.

Other games Friday night will include Kitchener in Stratford and Waterloo in Brampton with both games starting at 7:30 p.m.
