Cyclones find way to notch a win over Stratford

For the third time in their first four games this season, the Listowel Cyclones went into overtime.

Steven Grant came up with the winning goal at 4:12 into OT with assists from Thomas Gangl and Trent Verbeek, their first points of the season, in the 3-2 win over Stratford.

The first goal of the game didn't come until 1:04 of the second period when Rylan Bowers scored unassisted.

It stayed 1-0 until early in the third when Stratford scored two consecutive goals. The first was a shorthanded effort by Evan Dowd at the 1:08 mark. Blake Wideman then gave the Warriors the lead at the 2:46 point of the period.

Listowel captain Brendan Clayton was able to tie it at 13:39 of the third with the assist going to Bowers, his second point of the game.

Stratford out shot Listowel 31-28 as Cyclones' goalie Dixon Grimes continued his hot start. He is now 3-1 with a 1.42 GAA and .949 save percentage. Rhett Kimmel took the loss.

Both teams couldn't generate any offense on the power play, Listowel 0-2 and Stratford 0-3.

Next up for the Cyclones is a home game against Kitchener on Friday while Stratford will be home to Brampton.
