$15,000 raised for WES for Youth Online

The 7th Annual WES for Youth Online High School Hockey Tournament in Walkerton raised $15,000 this week.

That money will help the organization with its online support of youth in the area.

Emma Martin is the Community Relations Director for West For Youth.

"Many people are not aware but it does cost about $100 an hour for youth to receive this counselling," said Martin. "So we are now able to help hundreds with that amount."

Eight boys teams and six girls teams participated from the local area and from as far away as North Bay.

"We are so overwhelmed to see the community support," said Martin. "That people come out, the grandparents, the siblings. People that were not even associated with the tournament. They just wanted to come out and enjoy some good sport and seeing that our cause is being supported."

Sacred Heart ended up winning the gold medal in both divisions.

The boys' silver medal went to Resurrection from Kitchener and the bronze to Kincardine District.

Walkerton District earned silver in the girls' division and bronze went to F.E. Madill of Wingham.
