Hawks Keep First Place For Themselves In Mount Forest

With a few games in hand on Wingham, Walkerton regains sole position of first place in Western Junior C in an 8-3 win over Mount Forest.

Despite the five goal difference by the end, the Patriots had the lead after the first period. Brendon Aitken opened the scoring with the only goal of the period.

In the second it was all Walkerton. The Hawks scored six goals to take a commanding lead into the third period. AP's Justin Donnelly and  Justin McRae took the lead for their team. Josh Deyell, Brett Coulson, Jay Thomson and Alex Perrault would add on in the scoring.

Both sides would trade goals in the third. Tyler Cunningham made it 7-1 before Shawn Lantz got Mount Forest back on the board. Coulson would get his second for the Hawks eighth and final goal with Doug Costanzo getting the Patriots third.

Mount Forest played most of the game without team - and league - leading scorer Trevor Hughson. He would be kicked from the game after a hit to the head penalty led extra penalty minutes including a game misconduct. Hughson's 37 points from 17 games were missed my the Patriots.

The win gives Walkerton their 19th of the season. While even on points with the Wingham Ironmen, the Hawks stay in top spot with 3 three games in hand.
