It’s NHL Draft night and a skater from Listowel is projected to go in the first round.

Kingston Frontenacs defenseman Roland McKeown is ranked 27th among all skaters by NHL Central Scouting and a number of projections see him going in the mid to late first round.

He finished last season with 11 goals and 32 assists from the point.

Before his two seasons in the OHL, McKoewn was the captain of the Toronto Marlboros AAA Minor Midgets on a team that featured projected #1 pick Sam Bennett and teen phenom Connor McDavid.

Blyth’s Alex Peters, brother of Justin Peters on the Carolina Hurricanes is expected to go in either the 2nd or 3rd round. He played for the Plymouth Whalers this season scoring 3 goals and adding 6 assists in 50 games.

Peters is the third in his household to play in the OHL and if taken will be the second to have his named called at the NHL draft following brother Justin.(2nd round 38th overall in 2004).

Stratford’s Jacob Middleton is also expected to go later in the draft. He was a teammate of Peters with the Huron-Perth Lakers AAA before heading to Ottawa of the OHL. He scored 2 goals and 21 assists for 23 points in the 2013-14 season.
