St. Anne’s Earns Honour At OFSAA Rugby

A local high school rugby team is coming home with a fourth place finish at OFSAA “A/AA” in Belleville.

The girls’ team from St. Anne’s in Clinton won their first two matches to put them in the playoff round.  The team was also earned the sportsmanship award out of the 15 team field.

“The convenor told our team that he had been around OFSAA rugby a long time, and couldn’t remember the last time that so many referees, so many opposing coaches, opposing players, and fans came up to him and complimented him on how our girls carried themselves on and off the field,” says Ryan Clancy, the St. Anne’s coach.

Despite a 39-0 loss to Courtice in the bronze medal game, coach Clancy says the team performed well especially with the amount of injuries going into the medal round.

More local teams are in OFSAA tournaments Thursday and Friday.

Boys “A/AA” rugby starts tomorrow and F.E. Madill of Wingham is in the tournament in the Durham region.  Walkerton District Community School is in the “A/AA” boys’ soccer tournament in London.
