Free manufacturing pre-apprenticeship multiple trades exposure offered

The Technical Training Group in Stratford is now accepting applications for its 2023 Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Multiple Trades Exposure Programs.

“The program is 25 weeks. We're running one in Clinton and in Listowel. It's 17 weeks of in-class training and the focus is welding, metal fabricating and machining. And after the 17 weeks of in-class training there's an eight-week paid work placement, ” said Office and Pre-Apprenticeship Program Administrator Liz Balletto.

Balletto said the goal of the program is to get people into careers in the skilled trades. She says the training takes place in the evening from 6 p.m. till 9:30 p.m. and a couple of Saturdays a month.

Balletto added the student will have a job waiting for them when they graduate and the programs are tuition free.

“The government pays the cost for all of the training. We also can buy the work boots, the welding helmet, gear bag, everything anybody would need. Anyone 18 and older can apply. You have to have your high school diploma or a GED and you have to be eligible to work in Ontario,” she explained.

More information about the programs and how to apply can be found on the technicaltraininggroup.org web site. The deadline for applications of the Clinton program is June 16 and the deadline for the Listowel program is August 21.
