Stratford police warn of fraudulent lawnmower listing

The Stratford Police Service is warning of a fraudulent lawnmower listing after several residents were scammed out of hundreds of dollars.

Police say they received four reports over the weekend of buyers who responded to an online listing for the machine at a residence in Stratford. The seller asked that they e-transfer payment prior to pickup.

When victims arrived at the residence, they found the homeowner had no idea about the lawnmower ad.

The homeowner told officers there may be more victims of the scam, as several people have come by the residence. Those individuals are encouraged to contact police at 519-271-4141.

Stratford Police also remind online shoppers to arrange for payments at the time of exchange and that if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
