Hanover Police still searching for Bitcoin fraudster

Hanover Police continues to investigate a fraud that recently bilked a resident out of Bitcoin.

Police say the victim’s computer was hacked and frozen, before they received an alert from what they thought was Microsoft, asking for Bitcoin in exchange for unfreezing the device.

The victim complied by attending a local business that facilitates crypto transactions, but after sending an unspecified amount of money, all communication with the fraudsters ceased.

Hanover Police strongly caution people against dealing in Bitcoin unless they possess above average investment experience.

If anyone has information about this fraud, they are asked to contact police at 519-364-2411 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
