Perth County awards construction contract for Courthouse Campus

Perth County awarded a contract for an over $5 million renovation this week for the renewed Courthouse campus project.

Dakon Construction, was awarded the bid to renovate both floors of the 5 Huron Street building in Stratford (the former home of Service Ontario). The building will house the County's administrative staff.

Public Works Director John McClelland he's excited to see the project move forward and that it includes a connecting link addition.

“Along with that we're doing a connecting link addition, so we're linking the old courthouse at 1 Huron Street to the 5 Huron building and that connecting link addition will provide the main entrance and central reception for both facilities," McClelland explained.

“This is a historic project for the future home of the County of Perth.” said Warden Rhonda Ehgoetz. “Council has shown great leadership in moving the project forward. A tremendous amount of preparation and hard work has gone into bringing the project to this stage and I am eager to see the plans come to life.“

A total of six bids were received on the project.

“I am delighted with the support of Council to expand the County’s central administration facilities.” said Lori Wolfe, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). “County staff are committed to excellence in service delivery and this renewed facility will further support the exceptional work we do for our community.”

“We expect them to start either late this summer, or maybe do some site preparations in the early summer, with an anticipated completion date of September or early fall of 2024," added McClelland.
