Mount Forest man charged in fatal February crash

A Mount Forest man is accused of driving while impaired, resulting in a crash that left one person dead and another in serious condition back in February.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. on February 6 when members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the scene of a serious collision along Highway 6 just south of Mount Forest.

Police say two SUVs collided during the incident, resulting in life-threatening injuries to both drivers. A 48-year-old woman from Mount Forest was transported to hospital but was sadly pronounced deceased. A 46-year-old man, also from Mount Forest, was airlifted to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

On Monday, OPP announced the 46-year-old Mount Forest man, now identified as Craig Kaluza, has been charged with impaired driving causing death.

Police have not publicly identified the deceased.

The accused is scheduled to appear in a Guelph courtroom on June 13.
