Owen Sound seeks input on draft Climate Mitigation Plan

The City of Owen Sound wants to hear from citizens and visitors on its draft Climate Mitigation Plan. People can view the plan and complete the online survey to provide feedback until May 28, 2023.

The draft plan sets a baseline for green house gas emission inventory and provides reduction targets. It also outlines proposed actions to help the city get there. The proposed plan would enable the city to meet the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act's goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.

"The decisions we make each day as individuals and as a municipality have an impact on the changing world around us. We need to make necessary changes to protect and preserve our environment and plan for a sustainable future," said Mayor Ian Boddy. "We want to be leaders in climate action by embracing new technology and modern practices."

People can review the proposed themes and reduction actions in the draft plan at Our City Owen Sound. The responses will be reviewed and included in the final plan.

"Through this Climate Mitigation Plan, we hope not just to inform but also to inspire our community to act against climate change and find inclusive solutions that leave nobody behind," Boddy  added.
