Victim Service Huron commemorating homicide victims

Victim Services Huron will be unveiling three benches in May, all dedicated to homicide victims.

Members of the community wanted to get help from Victim Services to organize a bench in honour of Laura Wigelsworth, a Vanastra woman who was killed by her fiancé, Corey Volland in May of 2018.

"This request sparked the idea that we should investigate getting commemorative benches for the three homicide incidents in the past five years, which resulted in the loss of five loved ones," said  Deborah Logue, executive director of Victim Services.

The benches came together with support from the Canada Justice Department and the National Victims and Survivors of Crime Week grant.

Wigelsworth's bench will be at the Vanastra Lion's Park. The other two will be in Bluevale, at the rest stop on Highway 86, honouring Doug and Marian Fischer, and the third will stay at the Brussels Library, honouring Beverly Stevenson and Darwin Ducharme.

The unveiling will take place on May 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
