Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation to celebrate Earth Day with beach clean-up

The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation is inviting everyone to its Earth Day Beach Clean-Up on April 22 to celebrate the planet we call home.

“Our Earth Day Beach Clean-Up and BBQ Day is a fun, family friendly event to help keep Lake Huron free from plastic pollution, protect wild life and last year we had 133 volunteers remove 200 pounds of litter from the Goderich shoreline," said Alyssa Bourassa, coastal stewardship technician.

Bourassa added the Earth Day clean-up is just the start of their plastic pollution program for 2023.

“Our goal is to engage seven hundred volunteers and divert over 100,000 pounds of trash from ending up in Lake Huron through thirteen beach clean-up events that we will be hosting this year from Sarnia to Georgian Bay,” she said.

Bourassa invited anyone to join them on Saturday, April 22. The clean-up runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Christopher's Beach in Goderich. For those who want to volunteer, volunteers can RSVP by going to the Lake Huron Coastal Centre website.
