Town of Saugeen Shores set to run new Aquatic and Wellness Centre

Saugeen Shores council has approved an in-house solution for who will operate the town's future Aquatic and Wellness Centre.

On Monday, council approved a recommendation for the municipality to manage the new facility when it's completed in 2025. The Town says this model will give it flexibility to set membership rates and fees at levels that benefit both users and taxpayers at large.

A forecast by staff shows the facility will begin to pay back its initial start-up costs by 2027 and fully recover those costs by 2030.

The Town had been in negotiations with the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce to operate the centre, before withdrawing from those talks in early February.

The facility will feature an eight-lane swimming pool, a walking track, full-sized gymnasium and more, with construction set to begin later this year.
