Huron CAO appointed to AMO Board of Directors

Huron County's C-A-O has been appointed to the county caucus board of directors of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

Meighan Wark says she will hold the position until the end of the 2022 to 2024 term. She says, as a member of the board, she will work with other leaders throughout Ontario to help set policy for the association and provide support for the province's municipalities.

Wark says it's clear from the work that AMO is doing that it really aligns with the priorities of Huron County.

"So what this will allow us to do it is increase the power of that voice as well as provide a perspective from Huron County that contributes to the discussion and some of the solutions that are put forward for some of the challenges," she said.

Wark says those challenges would specifically include things like housing and homelessness, broadband internet expansion, and challenges related to municipal infrastructure.

Wark says one of the things her participation on the AMO Board can accomplish is demonstrating that rural communities face challenges that are similar to those faced in urban communities, but they look a little different in rural communities. Wark notes it's also important to recognize that AMO is one organization that represents almost all of Ontario's 444 municipal governments and it really is the leader in working collaboratively with the Ontario government on trying to find solutions and advocate on behalf of the municipalities.
