Britespan gets living wage certification

Britespan Building Systems in Wingham is the latest business to certify as a Living Wage employer.

Britespan employees about 120 people, so committing to a living wage for that many employees is a signficant commitment. Executive Assistant Stephanie Towton says Britespan is a very community-minded organization that really believes in its corporate responsibility and giving back to the community. She says one of the ways they feel they can do that is by becoming a certified Living Wage Employer. They feel that by providing a living wage to their employees they're ensuring that they're meeting their families basic needs including housing, food, clothing, transportation and health care.

"Retention and employee engagement are two things that are very important to Britespan and something that we ae continually working on," she said. "It's always a work in progress and we really try to listen to the employees and what they would like to see in a company."

Towton says they also believe that the surrounding community as well as their staff benefit from their commitment to a Living Wage.

Towton also says they're saving money by not always having to train new employees and employees that are treated well by their employers tend to return the favour. Britespan Building Systems Inc. has over 28 years of fabric building experience offering solutions for commercial, municipal, public works and agricultural industries.
