Midwestern hospitals could work together on MRI planning

Several Midwestern Ontario hospitals have some work ahead as they prepare to offer MRI screening.

The Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance Board of Governors was told that Wingham, Goderich, Kincardine, and Palmerston hospitals have approved MRI projects and are proceeding with plans to implement the service.

The Board will be looking for opportunities for sharing technical and planning expertise with neighbouring hospitals that are also implementing MRI diagnostics. While some sites require significant construction or a new addition, other hospital sites have space identified, which could mean various timelines for the projects.

The Ontario College system is quickly increasing training opportunities for MRI technicians.

Meantime, the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation is preparing to undertake a feasibility study to determine the level of community interest and support for a campaign that would raise funds for both an MRI and CT in Wingham.
