Retirement on the horizon for President & CEO of Grey Bruce Health Services

Grey Bruce Health Services (GBHS) has announced President and CEO Gary Sims plans to retire in November 2023 after four years with the organization.

“Gary will be leaving GBHS with a legacy of accomplishments,” said GBHS Board of Directors Chair Joanne Flewwelling.

Sims joined GBHS in October 2019 after working for Blanche River Health Partnership for over seven years. Just a few months into his tenure with GBHS, Sims faced the challenge of leading six hospitals through the COVID-19 pandemic while dealing with staffing shortages.

Some significant accomplishments during Sims' time include opening a new Markdale hospital and a Mental Health Wellness & Treatment Centre. He also helped improve several of his organization's facilities, services, and operations.

In a statement from GBHS, Sims is admired for his "natural ability to engage with others," which helped strengthen internal and external relations for the organization. Sims also led the Board of Directors through a strategic planning exercise that left the team with a promising roadmap for a better future.

"During his time with GBHS Gary has made a tremendous impact," Flewwelling added.

The GBHS Board of Directors will begin the recruitment process for a new President & CEO soon.
