Teen charged in rollover crash in Central Huron

A young man has been charged after he allegedly rolled a pickup truck in Central Huron with five passengers inside last month.

At around 5:40 a.m. on January 15, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single-vehicle collision near the area of Maitland Block Road and Base Line. Upon arrival, emergency crews located a pickup truck on its side in a farm field.

The driver and five occupants were taken to hospital to be treated for varying injuries. Police say one of the passengers suffered serious injuries.

"Police spoke to the driver and determined that they had been consuming alcohol prior to driving," a release from the OPP read. "The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation."

After the accused driver received medical treatment, he provided breath samples to officers. Police say the readings came back over the legal limit.

The 19-year-old Central Huron man has since been charged with operation causing bodily harm, operation over the legal limit causing bodily harm and dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

The vehicle the accused was driving was towed and impounded for a week after the crash and his licence has been suspended for 90 days.

He is scheduled to appear in a Goderich courtroom later this month.
