Huron East Fire Department receives $5,000 donation

Enbridge Gas Inc. has donated $5,000 to the Huron East Fire Department to purchase firefighting training materials to help firefighters learn life-saving techniques.

The money comes from the Safe Community Project Assist, a program with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council to support volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge Gas operates. The Huron East Fire Department has one full time Chief and 70 volunteer firefighters operating out of three fire stations in Seaforth, Brussels and Ethel.

“Training is key to community and firefighter safety and the educational materials that we have been able to purchase with this grant will assist in providing our dedicated firefighters with the resources they need to continue their education. As demands on the fire service continue to shift and evolve it is extremely important to gain new skills and maintain previous skills,” said Fire Chief Kent Readman. “These new educational materials provide our members with the most current health and safety, training and fire service best practices information.”

In all, 50 fire departments across the province will share this year's $250,000 donation from Enbridge Gas.

“At Enbridge Gas, safety is our priority. We’re proud to support Ontario firefighters who share our commitment to keeping our communities safe, healthy and vibrant,” says Luc Cormier, Supervisor Operations, London Operations, Enbridge Gas.

“Safe Community Project Assist improves access to training materials for fire departments,” says Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the FMPFSC. “Firefighting can be dangerous and unpredictable, and these training materials positively contribute to the health and safety of firefighters and the broader community.”

The amalgamation of the former Grey, McKillop and Tuckersmith Townships with the Town of Seaforth and Village of Brussels led to the formation of the Huron East Fire Department in 2001.
