UPDATE: Seaforth Community Hospital closes emergency room, inpatient unit

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) has issued a series of announcements on Saturday regarding closures at Seaforth Community Hospital over the next several days.

The emergency department will operate under a limited schedule due to "sudden health human resource shortages," according to HPHA.

The emergency room will be open as follows:

• Saturday until 9 p.m.

• Sunday 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

• Monday 7 a.m.

Regular hours will resume after opening on Monday.

In case of emergency, the public is advised to call 911 as paramedics will be re-routing patients to other hospitals in the area.

A few hours earlier, HPHA announced that the inpatient unit at Seaforth Community Hospital is closed to admissions due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

HPHA released a statement announcing an outbreak had been declared, meaning at least two patients or team members have tested positive for COVID-19.

The hospital is now conducting contact tracing and testing for people in the unit.

Those who may have been affected by the outbreak are in the process of being notified.

"Family and Caregiver Presence on the [Inpatient] Unit has been restricted. The only exception is for palliative patients at end of life," HPHA added in its statement. "Care teams will regularly update families/caregivers and make them aware of opportunities for virtual connections."
