Saugeen Shores selects construction manager for new aquatic facility

Saugeen Shores council has made an important decision in regards to the construction of the new Aquatic and Wellness Centre.

They have selected Kitchener-based Ball Construction Ltd. to construct the facility.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau said the town has worked with Ball Construction Ltd. in the past and is confident the construction of the aquatic centre is in good hands.

“It’s an expensive project, it’s a complex project, and you need some real experts to make sure it’s brought in on time and on budget and make sure it lives up to everybody’s hopes and expectations,” said Charbonneau. “We’re very confident this team will be able to do that.”

With that important step completed, the town is now working towards their next milestones.

“We’re still planning to have construction started by mid-year of this year, and to have the project substantially completed by the end of 2024. [The plan is] to have folks swimming there and using that broader facility by the beginning of 2025,” he said. “We’re right on track to achieve that.”

Charbonneau continued to say council’s next focus is to decide on the operating model of the centre.

“No decision has been made on that point. We don’t know if we’ll have a third party operate it or if the town will operate it itself. That’s a decision that’s going to be made within the next several weeks. I encourage everyone to follow council agendas,” said Charbonneau.
