Exeter Condo plan attracts opposition

On Monday night, South Huron council heard from a delegation opposed to a developer's proposal for a condominium in Exeter.

South Huron Mayor George Finch says the proposed condominium would be on property at the corner of Waterloo and Main Street at the south end of Exeter.

“The house that's currently there was built in the late 1800s and it's got a lot of history to it as to who lived there in the past. So some people are upset about that fact that it's a heritage home, but it's got no designation and people are upset about the fact that the developer would like change it into condominiums,” said Finch.

Finch says there's a need for more housing in South Huron, as there is throughout most of Ontario

“The proposal is a five-story, 85 unit condominium building to be set on the site. We'd like to see affordable units go in there, but that's all geared to the market as far as what the cost of the condominium would be,” he added.

Finch says council is still waiting to hear back from the planners and developers, but at this point no decision has been made on the proposal.
