South Bruce Residents losing big money to scammers

South Bruce County residents have lost more than $500,000 to scammers in the past six weeks. South Bruce report fraudsters tricked their victims with the so called "Bitcoin" scam and the "Romance" scam.

The South Bruce OPP reminds people to never share personal information through emails, texts, or social media sites.  Any unsolicited "Crypto stock trading" offer is questionable, so thoroughly research those involved before you consider any investment.

When it comes to the romance scam, OPP said people need to consider if someone they have never met has actually fallen in love, and any request for money is a big red flag.

"Remember that tech-savvy scammers can create very convincing scams. They won't hesitate to use the name of a legitimate company to gain your trust and trick you into paying them," said OPP

The South Bruce OPP and the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit are continuing to investigate.
