North Huron's Reeve looking forward to retirement

North Huron’s Reeve says he’s looking forward to retirement after being unsuccessful in his bid for re-election.

Bernie Bailey doesn’t plan to run again in any future elections but says he really enjoyed serving North Huron these past four years.

“I’ve given 8 years of my life to the township, as Reeve and a councillor before that. It was exciting, we moved a lot of items and we got a lot done. We came through COVID on top of it and it was just wonderful working with everyone. But it’s time for me to move on,” said Bailey.

He adds he’s proud of what he accomplished during his four years as Reeve, and wouldn’t have changed anything about his campaign.

“Four years ago I was elected on a platform to deliver lower taxes, and the only way to deliver lower taxes is to have more people pay into the pot. I have delivered on that, my council has delivered on that. So I think I did what I said I was going to do and I have no regrets,” said Bailey.

Bailey says Paul Heffer, who has been newly elected as Reeve of the township, will be a great addition to North Huron’s council, and wishes him luck during the next term.

“[Council] has a lot [of projects] on the go, so if Paul was to reach out to me and ask about anything that we’ve already started, I would be there to help him through it. As far as any new projects being started, that is up to the new Reeve,” he added.
