Collision causes power outage in Wellington County

Wellington County OPP charged one driver following a collision in Rothsay that closed the roadway and left many without any electricity for several hours.

Police were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Queen St and Elora Street West in Rothsay around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

OPP were told a pickup truck and a commercial motor vehicle had collided.  Police said the commercial motor vehicle then struck a hydro pole and live hydro wires were across the roadway. No injuries were reported, but the roadway was closed for several hours while the hydro lines were repaired.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the pickup truck, a 51-year-old from Listowel, has been charged with Disobey Stop Sign - Fail to Stop, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article incorrectly reported that the driver of the commercial vehicle was charged. Wellington County OPP have since issued a correction to the media that clarified that the individual charged was driving the pickup truck.
