Centres for Employment and Learning win national award

The Centres for Employment and Learning's “Learning HUB Program” was one of the winners of a Council of the Federation Literacy Award. The announcement was made by the Premiers of Canada.

The Site Coordinator for the Avon Maitland Centre for Employment and Learning Site Coordinator, Nancy Lazenby, says the Learning HUB Program helps young adults who are out of high school improve and upgrade their skills that lead to employment or post-secondary education. She says they provide online learning in math, reading, writing, and improving digital skills.

“We have all age levels of learners who want and need to improve their digital skills because the pandemic certainly shone a spotlight on our need to be able to engage, digitally, not only for learning, but for communication,” said Lazenby.

Lazenby says they're very grateful for the recognition that comes with the award and they're also very proud that they were able to adjust quickly, specifically through the pandemic. “To be able to continue to offer the great work and the great programming that we've been able to offer our learners and really we didn't skip a beat when it came to providing the learning that our learners needed,” she added”

More information about the program can be found on their website.
