Bruce County Council has passed a motion after agreeing the proposed new electoral district of South Huron Shores will put the county at a disadvantage.
A motion put to council said the Constitution of Canada requires federal electoral districts be reviewed after each 10-year census.
The proposed changes to the electoral boundaries will eliminate the existing riding of Huron-Bruce. The new riding would include three shoreline Bruce County communities of Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, and Huron Kinloss. Those three municipalities make up about 35% of the population of Bruce County.
The riding of South Huron Shores would extend across four counties, including Bruce, Huron, Lambton, and Middlesex.
County Council approved a motion Thursday asking staff to submit a written objection to the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission of Ontario.
