Chesley and Walkerton emergency departments to close this weekend

South Bruce Grey Health Centre has announced another round of temporary Emergency Department (ED) closures due to critical nursing staff shortages.

The Walkerton ED will be closed starting at 5:00 p.m. Friday September 16t, and will reopen Saturday September 17 at 7:00 a.m. It will close again at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 17 and remain closed until 7:00 a.m on Sunday, September 18.

The Chesley ED will be closed from 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 17 until 7:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19.

A statement from the health centre said all efforts to find staffing for the Emergency Department have been undertaken without success.

Ambulance by-pass will undertaken to divert patients to the nearest open ED.

Anyone requiring immediate medical attention should call 911 to be taken to the nearest Emergency Department. For non-urgent health care needs, Health Connect Ontario is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions by calling 811.
