New housing closer to approval in Owen Sound

Two major developments in the City of Owen Sound have moved closer to final approval.

Council held a public meeting and considered a staff report regarding a proposed zoning by-law amendment for SkyDev Bayshore Owen Sound at 3195 East Bayshore Road.

The proposed eight apartment buildings overlooking Georgian Bay, includes 712 purpose-built residential units.

Council also granted draft plan of subdivision approval and approved a rezoning to facilitate the development of an approximately 30-hectare vacant parcel in the Sydenham Heights Planning Area on the south side of 8th Street East.

The plan of subdivision for Greystone Village will consist of approximately 716 units in a variety of residential types, three commercial blocks and two park blocks.

In all, 2021 saw permits issued for 91 new residential units in Owen Sound. To date, in 2022, permits have been issued for 105 new residential units , with 88 of those being purpose built rentals, with new growth slightly outpacing 2021 permit numbers and revenue.

“Good growth is planned and strategic, and the City is excited to see these developments moving forward with plans for over 1400 residential units for housing the community needs,” said Mayor Ian Boddy.
