It's time to play ball in Saugeen Shores at the Lamont Sports Park

Phase 1 of the construction of the Lamont Sports Park in Saugeen Shores has been completed, featuring four lit ball diamonds, a connection to the Saugeen Rail Trail, and more.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau says community support for this project has been amazing.

“Our community always comes out to support a good cause, and we have countless examples of that. This is just another one. It’s great the community wants to see itself improve and wants to see great new facilities and wants to support that."

Charbonneau says the fundraising committee is already close to reaching their $1 million goal for the construction of Phase 2 of the project, which will see the construction of two additional ball diamonds.

“What it means for our community going forward is a better quality of life! This is a really high quality recreation facility, and these are the kinds of facilities that our community can build now and will be able to build going forward because of our growth and because of our success.”

The fundraising committee now needs the public's help to build two new youth diamonds, and Charbonneau says they’re hoping to reach their goal of $1 million.

You can go online to the Town of Saugeen Shores website to make a donation.

Charbonneau adds the park will start hosting baseball games next year using the Phase 1 area, and Phase 2 games will likely be scheduled for 2025.
