Deadline looms for Upper Grand elementary remote learning program

The Upper Grand District School Board will offer a remote learning option for elementary students in the 2022-23 school year. The deadline to register for the Remote Program is this Friday June 10th.

Students who sign up will be placed in a standalone synchronous remote classroom, where classes are staffed by dedicated remote learning teachers. The name of the Elementary Remote Program has been renamed the Erin PS Remote Program for the 2022-23 year, however this program is available to students from all UGDSB elementary schools.

The decision families make about remote learning vs in-person learning for 2022-23 will be for the entire school year , as movement between learning modes can cause disruptions for many students and classrooms.  In a release, the board said in-person learning best supports students, but they recognize that some families may want their child to learn remotely, due to their unique circumstances.

The deadline to register is Friday, June 10, 2022, at 4pm. To register your child, please click the following link and complete the Registration Form: https://forms.gle/fSx625BeE4zTrDJb6

The board also said families should be aware that there will be some differences in remote learning in 2022-23 compared to what we were able to offer in the past two school years. For instance, with more students expected to return to in-person learning, our ability to offer a similar breadth of remote programming as was offered previously may be limited.

The synchronous remote learning classrooms will include:

-300 minute daily schedule set by teacher -Live instruction using Google Meets (225 minutes for Grades 1-8; 180 minutes for Kindergarten) -Use of Google Classroom online learning environment -Daily attendance

For the past two years the ERP has been run with students staying registered at their in-person “home” school and cross-enrolled with the ERP. Next year, all remote students will be officially transferred from their in-person school to the Erin PS Remote Program, which is being run out of Erin Public School. All Ontario Student Records (OSRs) will be moved to Erin PS. While this won’t make much of a difference from the students’ and families’ perspectives, it will allow the Erin PS Remote Program to become established as a permanent program moving forward.

The viability of French Immersion (FI) being offered in the Erin PS Remote Program will be dependent on the number of FI registrations. The viability of Specialized Class Placements being offered in the Erin PS Remote Program will be dependent on the number of Special Class registrations.

Registration for the Remote Program is open until Friday June 10, 2022, at 4pm. Please remember this decision is for the entire 2022-23 school year.
