OPP lay over 9,000 charges during Canada Road Safety Week

The OPP have shared their numbers from Canada Road Safety Week that ran from May 17th to the 23rd.

In a release, the OPP say they laid 9,392 total charges despite giving advance notice of "cracking down on aggressive, careless and other poor drivers during the most robust traffic safety campaign of the year."

Officers responded to 935 crashes, 3 of which were fatal. 8,020 speeding charges and 138 stunt driving/racing charges were laid. Other charges included 216 for impaired driving, 177 for distracted driving, 151 for careless driving and 632 for no seatbelt, which includes drivers and passengers.

Police note that the 935 collisions across the province during Canada Road Safety Week were largely preventable and avoidable with safe and sober driving.
