Bluewater discussing short term rental by-law

The Mayor of Bluewater says they still haven't made a decision regarding short term rentals.

Paul Klopp says they discussed the proposed bylaw at this week's council meeting and councillors threw some ideas together and staff threw in some ideas.

Now the issue is going back out to the public for more input.

“The short term rental bylaw is actually going out for discussion now. Councillors threw some ideas together and the staff threw some ideas and now we're going to go out and here what the public has to say and we'll go from there,” said Klopp.

Klopp says his feeling is they will allow short term rentals but they want to do it in a way that works for everyone.

“It definitely brings new people to our community for one week, two weeks, a weekend. They spend money in our community. Having said that, there's always this balance of those neighbours and noise and those kinds of activities," explained Kopp.

Klopp also points out, in the past, not all of the excess noise has come from short term renters.

There is a noise bylaw in place now but there is some discussion about creating one that specifically addresses short term rentals and balances the benefits and the problems that sometimes comes with them.
